What If...

A friend of mine, Mike, posted this, and it truly stirred me in light of my recent church experiences..

If the electricity went out, and your walls fell down, and your biggest givers died, what would you have left? Would you have a community of people still seeking after the heart of God? Would you still worship even without a band? Would you still be able to learn about God even though you can't show a video or a PowerPoint slide? In other words, what you have when everything else goes away is what your church is really all about.

I've been thinking about this, nothing came to mind immediately but I was away this weekend and I was telling someone about our last appointment where "church" was happening more Mon-Sat than on Sunday. During the week people from the community were joining in various ways of serving the least of these which I think is definitely worship. Our faiths and beliefs were vastly different but our purpose united us. I'm so glad I was reminded of this.-debby

I tried to post, and it disappeared, so I'll try once more...

There is a song that totally illustrates Mike's point, by the band "Soul Junk" from their album "1956". There is a song called "pumpfake"...check out these lyrics!

"checking if your church got built by man/let's liquidate the physical & see what still stands/cuz if your church not built with hands/indivisible, one mind, invisible, that's right."

I wish I had room to quote the whole song. It would bless your socks off!

I am on a journey, searching for God and what that means in my daily life. It's not about constraints, it's not about limitations, but freedom. I know something exists beyond the visible. I live thinking about possibilities and what could be and the necessary steps to make things happen. I like long talks with a good friend, drinking tea, eating breakfast with my husband, going to a bookstore (they are the new libraries), cool mornings, windy days in the fall, learning about love and life from those who seem to have found their way, teenagers, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, long baths, and connecting with another heart. I am learning how to love, how to live, when to speak and when not to, when it's time to gather the stones, when it's time to let go, surrender, forgiveness, and discipline.
