the half-blood prince

i finished the sixth harry potter book last night. for those of you who do not know me, i hope that this does not diminish my credibility. this last one was a blow, however. i spent the last two and a half chapters in tears.

i had read the first 2 books in 1999 and have been following the series ever since. i was already through with book 3 before all of the "harry potter is satanic" mania started. having already gone through half of the series, i had not once ever suspected that impression and was astonished at how quickly so many Christians jumped on the bandwagon. my husband actually bought a book titled something like "Harry Potter and the Devil." it is now placed on the shelf right next to my collection of all six books.

i had dreams of wizards and spells last night. a big revelation of this book was the realization to harry that the only power he can use to fight against the powers of darkness is LOVE.

interesting, isn't it?

I am on a journey, searching for God and what that means in my daily life. It's not about constraints, it's not about limitations, but freedom. I know something exists beyond the visible. I live thinking about possibilities and what could be and the necessary steps to make things happen. I like long talks with a good friend, drinking tea, eating breakfast with my husband, going to a bookstore (they are the new libraries), cool mornings, windy days in the fall, learning about love and life from those who seem to have found their way, teenagers, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, long baths, and connecting with another heart. I am learning how to love, how to live, when to speak and when not to, when it's time to gather the stones, when it's time to let go, surrender, forgiveness, and discipline.
