Blaise Blah-zay

i'm reading a bit of pascal for a class i'm working on. he poses some very interesting thoughts on theology despite being reknown for his work in mathematics. he states that Christianity is the only religion that accounts for our state and offers a cure.

isn't that what we are all looking for? we want someone to tell us why we are here, in this place that is so far off the beaten path that we need more than a map to find our way back home. we want a recognition of the desires within us that are warring against the evil that is so often our first, rather than second, instinct.

and we want someone to give us a hand, drop us a line, call out our name... offer us LIFE. we know that we're not well.

'we know that we're not well..'

wow.. amen to that. very challenging.. this is a fundamental truth that i wish more within the church could get their arms around.

sure, we say it, but do we mean it? does it show up in the way we live?

your second paragraph was right on too. great post Kelly..

I was reading an article this morning about surrender and the author talked about Pascal. Pascal surrendered his work as a mathmetician because he wanted to spend 10 "healthy years" working on an apology for his faith. Turns out he got sick and couldn't finish his work. He surrendered his life's work to the Lord and then the Lord didn't want him to write an apology for his faith. The Lord wanted him to live out His faith. So, Pascal stopped writing and started feeding the poor.
Just a little background - in case you didn't know.

I am on a journey, searching for God and what that means in my daily life. It's not about constraints, it's not about limitations, but freedom. I know something exists beyond the visible. I live thinking about possibilities and what could be and the necessary steps to make things happen. I like long talks with a good friend, drinking tea, eating breakfast with my husband, going to a bookstore (they are the new libraries), cool mornings, windy days in the fall, learning about love and life from those who seem to have found their way, teenagers, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, long baths, and connecting with another heart. I am learning how to love, how to live, when to speak and when not to, when it's time to gather the stones, when it's time to let go, surrender, forgiveness, and discipline.
