SPHINX: PERPLEX ::

a) oracle : interpret
b) prophet : prepare
c) siren : lure
d) jester : astound
e) minotaur : anger

can they be serious?! isn't it logical to assume a minotaur is a type of dinosaur?

no, because the root "taur" means "bull". the minotaur was a bull-beast thing.

the sphinx was "perplexing" because it presented impossible riddles to passersby and devoured them if they couldn't answer it.

so the answer is either gonna be b or c, and i'm leaning more toward c because prophets' wisdom tends to only come out in hindsight; people generally don't heed them in time to be "prepared".

What is the relationship between Sphinx and perplex? A sphinx represents perplexing questions. An oracle represents knowledge or answers. I would say the correct answer is "A".

The role of a Sphinx is to perplex the role of an Oracle is to give answers.

I must say Leslie offers a good option..I am now torn between Siren and Lure. Both a siren and sphinx seek to devour its prey. But I am stuck with the notion that a sphinx will devour only after the prey is unable to answer the riddle whereas the Siren simply lures and kills.

The relationship between Sphinx and perplex has to do with whether the passerby has "knowledge" or not. This is why Oracle stands out in my mind. Both are mythological creatures and both share a relationship regarding knowledge. I guess I still lean toward Oracle:Interpret.

So Kell, do we have to stew over this or are you going to let us know the answer. I must say things like this haunt me until I know the correct answer. So don't keep me waiting too long.

they're ALL mythological creatures.

it wouldn't be a.) oracle : interpret because the oracle doesn't interpret anything; the oracle gives cryptic pronouncements that no one can figure out until it's too late (Oedipus, anyone?). the sphinx perplexes YOU, the siren lures YOU, the prophet prepares YOU (kind of).

Kelly,

You and J. have got to get internet at home! This having to wait until you go in the office to post is crazy. YOu had me stirring over the analogy all weekend.

Bravo ladies!!! But still, the turnaround time is a bit lacking. After all you, you present a mental challenge to the good folks in the blogosphere only to make us waite an entire week for the response? This is unacceptable!! Patio? I say Internet!!! Who needs cookouts. YOu have a readership now and we demand weekend posts!! "Heck No We Won't go!" """""""""""""""""

Ok, my rant is over. I guess I will just have to read my "B" list of blogs on my weekends and holidays;

HOw about the "Get Kelly and Jason internet and cable at home Fund?" I'll contribute monthly.. HOw much? Besides if it will get you off of Passion and onto a more reasonable soap like Laguna Beach then my donation will not be in vain.

I am on a journey, searching for God and what that means in my daily life. It's not about constraints, it's not about limitations, but freedom. I know something exists beyond the visible. I live thinking about possibilities and what could be and the necessary steps to make things happen. I like long talks with a good friend, drinking tea, eating breakfast with my husband, going to a bookstore (they are the new libraries), cool mornings, windy days in the fall, learning about love and life from those who seem to have found their way, teenagers, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, long baths, and connecting with another heart. I am learning how to love, how to live, when to speak and when not to, when it's time to gather the stones, when it's time to let go, surrender, forgiveness, and discipline.
