read some very interesting insights today on alternative worship.
this particular presentation compared two models; one being the attractional model--if we fix it, they will come, and then the missional model--an open set of believers that see church as a resource for living kingdom lives.
the thing is, the fixing didn't work. maybe we were too focused on selling a product. what if we removed the product as a point of delivery?
what if church didn't look like music, scripture, sermon?
what does that make a church building?
what if we actually lived our lives as if LIFE was our chief instrument of mission instead of the church service?

Interesting thoughts. How would you gather than to worship, encourage since scripture tells us not to give up on meeting together? I think you are right we are called to live life and to live it to the fullest.
we would still gather, but the worship would look different than it does now.
out lives would embody mission as opposed to our church services. does this make sense?
sort of...I'm trying to get it.:)
Can you explain how it would look? What a new person coming in could expect?
one of the things our pastor says is he want people leaving church talking about God not our church.
The bigger our God the more we will talk about him.
And when we experience God we will want to talk about him, and people too will want to experience our God and we can help direct people to him. While that includes church, that is not just church.
Clear as mud?

interesting thoughts Kelly, as well as the comments here.
i'm always excited to hear new concepts of church as a "rhythm".. a simple way of living that doesn't begin at 9:45 on Sunday and end at 11:00 am. we still need that time to gather, worship and learn, but it should be more of a launching pad, not a destination. perhaps a time to share stories of the redemption and experience the incarnational living that took place the other 167 hours during the week.
those are my thoughts, for what they're worth!
peace, my friend.

kelly,
Great post! I think about this all the time. I agree with jeff in that I think our gatherings could be a time of sharing stories and encouraging one another in the mission that is our daily life.
