a Christmas Prayer

i go on vacation tomorrow and will be in florida through the 26th. i will leave you with a Christmas Eve prayer, to be read at dusk, or before midnight on the 24th.

This night is the long night
when those who listen await His cry.

This night is the eve of the great nativity
when those who are longing await His appearing.

Wait, with watchful heart.

Listen carefully, through the stillness;
listen, hear the telling of the waves upon the shore.

Listen, hear the song of the angels glorious-
e're long it will be heard
that His foot has reached the earth:
news-that the glory is come!

Truly his salvation is near
for those who fear Him
and His glory shall dwell in our land.

Watch and pray, the Lord shall come.

Those who are longing await his appearing.

Those who listen await His cry.

Watch...

Wait...

Listen...

This night is the long night.

I am on a journey, searching for God and what that means in my daily life. It's not about constraints, it's not about limitations, but freedom. I know something exists beyond the visible. I live thinking about possibilities and what could be and the necessary steps to make things happen. I like long talks with a good friend, drinking tea, eating breakfast with my husband, going to a bookstore (they are the new libraries), cool mornings, windy days in the fall, learning about love and life from those who seem to have found their way, teenagers, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, long baths, and connecting with another heart. I am learning how to love, how to live, when to speak and when not to, when it's time to gather the stones, when it's time to let go, surrender, forgiveness, and discipline.
